Based on the memoirs of journalist Lynn Barber, directed by Lone Scherfig and scripted by novelist Nick Hornby, ‘An Education’ is about an affair between promising 16-year-old student Jenny (Carey Mulligan in her first lead film role) and the much older David (Peter Sarsgaard, ‘Elegy’). Replacing her schoolbooks with classical concerts, art auctions, smoky bars and late-night suppers, Jenny finds herself torn between a glittering new world and the demands of her family.
