Renowned artist Sam Taylor Wood’s directorial debut follows the turbulent life of 15 year-old John Lennon (remarkable newcomer Aaron Johnson). On the cusp of forming the Beatles, Lennon uses rock and roll as a form of escape from his troubled family life. Taylor Wood’s direction and Matt Greenhalgh’s witty script elicit fine performances from Kristen Scott Thomas (‘I’ve Loved You So Long’) as Lennon’s domineering Aunt Mimi and Anne-Marie Duff (‘Is Anybody There?’) as his mother.
